- artless the Government world attempt to
keep down quotations by selling part of its
reserve. The shipments of grain from the
tif9Pthern State 4118!ifist t6o4llMicCei4suid,.
will - ' supply the market with commercial
paper, ~ thus avoiding large shipments of
specie out of the country.
The market in Government securities
was much depressed, and offers to sell are
increasing.. So soon as the market depend
ed on' the speculative buyers
: supported by
country orders ,' an advance was certain,
but the premium nowis so high that it
must certainly be a very timid investor
who cannot find profitable investment for
his capital elsewhere. Daring the time
the Government was a borrower from the
people in the form of issueing bends, it was ,
a virtue of the loyal citizens to pnpport the
Govermient by taking these blinds in: pre
ference to other investments,..but now it
would be nothing else but sustaining ape-
culaters and speculative balika. • -
The Qiiitral Pacific .Raihroadlias now
raised its bonds to 118, and the Unionla
nearly the same by declining' to sell cou
pons. Stocks are dull anti lowan- the hea
