We are more convinced of the. necessity
-and usefulness of this Home, as year after

' this - work. We are milling to labor, but
we desire the sympathy and co-operation
of this Christian comnaunity. We• would

feel that they have an interest in this

all that are proper objects of its charity.
Since its opening in May, 1861, we have
had about five hundred ' and forty-four
children under our care .and u instruction,
and ninety-six adults,' tettiperlallY shel
tered. Some of the former_liave beenlro-

~parents or friends. The past. year we have:
received 41 children and 14 adults; present
L -number, 86-kirls 35, boys, 51. •
There has been three deaths during the
year, all young and delicate'children. One
of these hadbeen cruelly left to perish on a
door step. We received it, but death soon
terminated its sufferings.
Forth° past two years we-have had over
forty soldiers' ehildren placed under our
care by the State Superintendent, for
whifim we receive 115 each annually. In

was unable to have a comfortable home for
