EIRA.DY & CO. 6.0 1itt04t0:...04:* FINANCE AND TRADE. OFFICE OF THE PITTSBURG)! GAZETTE, THURSDAY, June 4, 1868. The premium on gold has receded from 140 V, to 139%, Market weak. The advance yesterday morning . from 139 g to 140 g brought out a great many sellers, and the aggregate sales 'amounted to more than double the usual transactions. It is en tirely a brokers market, and outsiders can not operate , at all; the commissions either way swallow up all_proilta. The shipments of coin this week will reach an amount equal to that of last week, but it is sup posed that the future sllipments of coin will be much reduced by the large number of commercial bills now on the market, and the drafts against shipment of bonds. Government bonds were decidedly lower to-day.' The large speculators, when they noticed the anxiety from dealers to secure a sufficient amount of bonds during the Treasury's suspension' of conversion, sold out their stock on hand and brought down the market. Should -money remain at 3 per cent. for Government collateral, there. is no telling where bonds will go to, but it is at present just as dangerous to buy and hold for higher prices, as it is to sell them deliverable at a future period. The fact that there are two markets to operate in Governinents makes dealing more danger ous, except , to buy them when very low and sell when they are high, The Market prices are , high, and whether a further ad vance, will take place or not, those, who have bought with the purpose to sell at an advanCe, are sure to make a handsome pro= lit by selling now. The high prices for Governments bas ad: vanced the Union - Ptillic` Railroad bonds, and the present supply is ':exhausted. With the Treasurer. Orders Ail/. hpretifter be taken for the Jay" inidthe in terest be adjusted in Currency at six per Cent. It is quite likely that these bonds will beadvineed to - foSwitiiiiiiite'next four • weeks. Stocks are dull and lower;* Port thine still further declined. tollay; to 111, it hair- Aug toiictied 11634;'120 was the priCo'fixel at by speculators, and "pfirohasers - were made at 115, under the above delusion, but the cliques botight at from 102 to 1.05, and could well afford at ' a profit of about ten per cent. , withina. fortnight. , The balance of the list htalso lower, and the depression in, gold and bonds seems to , be the work of the shrewd operators. Expresa . stocks are dull although steady; the constant rob beries of large amounts of bonds and money haVe brought these companies in discredit with capitalists. In Mining shares more doing, but the' market is in sympathy with. all other stooks. Money is easier for first-class short paper at Bfo 10 per cent.,and long paper is not much in favor.
