is every appearance of another freshet.
At Oil , City the Allegheny was rising.

rising .rapidly,yesterday._
The J. N. McCullough cleared for Cin

did not get off for St. Loida last night, she
will leave early this morning. .
The Armerica,. L'apt..A.. C. McCallum, is
now in turn, and will be the 'first boat out
for St. Louis. :
The St. Charles arrived from Cincinnati
last• evening, and will return ,again as
usual this evening at 5 o'clock. She is now
so well and favorably known in the trade,
that the mere mention of the time of her
departure is all necessary. Capt. C. A.

drew Robinson, Jr., still retains charge of
the office.
The Sam. Roberts, with twelve barges,
containing 85,000 bushels of coal left for
Louisville yesterday. •
Alluding. to the brisk condition for
freight, • the Dubuque Herald says: The
strike to secure freights by river from this
place has began-in earnest, and the battle
promises to belong—victory coming to the
Ene with the longest muse. Shippers are
button-holed, begged, implored for.fredght,
at almost any price—one agency offering
nineteen cents per hundred on grain in
sacks to St. Lotus, and another agency of to take the . whole sack there for
that price. At this rate, shipments will
soon command a prethinm, and a good bo
nus paid far the privilege of conveyance.
While the fight is progressing shippers can
laugh, for they seldom receive such advan
tages. "The combat depens; on, ye braves,
1010 rush to glory," or bankruptcy.:
