Gold opened firm to-day at 140 X, but on the increased offers to sell in order to rea lize, the market became very weak, and declined gradually to 139%. The less con confident tone in regard to the. President's conviction and the weakness in European exchange have had a favorable influence on the gold market, and towards the close large offers for gold were made-140 is such a convenient premium that almost anybody who has held back with coupons, is willing to accept, and this is the main cause of the 7eakness of the market. De spite the heavy shipments of gold for the past week, - the bank statement shows an increase of coin of five millions, and gold is readily loaned at from sto 7 per cent. per annum currency interest. The general Supposition on Saturday that gold would be higher to-day has brought a large num ber of orders to buy bonds, and the mar ket became very . actife and higher, but to day, there was less demand for bonds, and a general decline of from 3 to 34 per cent. took place. The future price of- bonds de pends much on the European markets and the question whether a -further issue of currency will be resorted to. Besides con version of Seven Thirty bands, little is done in the inferior where money com mands 10 to 12 yer cent. per annum. In stocks there was a general dullness, and, Fort Wayne declined from 10734 to 105 x; Cleveland is lower, and all the east ern shares are weak. North Western is the only strong, stock, together with Rock Island. In local secaritiem there is a per fect stand-still in the absence of any buy ers. Some insurance stocks were offered, but no purchasers can be found at former quotations. 1:21 A small lot of Columbia changed hands to-day, - It is underrtood, at 11, in view of a dividend in July next. Money not very active, but fall rates are paid for by good borrowers. Closing quotations as received by Ph. R. CRUDE—There was a wonderful commo tion in the oil market to-day, and what in tensified it more was the - fact:that it was so sudden and unexpected. Thera are yarious ,causes assigned for this sudden change, the most prominent of which, is that it is a vigorous and preconcerted "bull movement", gotten up specially, for, the occasion by a clique of Pittsburgh and.
