for goods, chiefly, which are selling at low
and unprofitable rates. Trade ? •in fact, is
being forced, and far from being satisfac
tory. Indian Dead heavy sheetings are
soiling as low as 1734; Lawrence C 1634; La
conia B 1634; Cubot A 16; Bedford B 1034.

ens languish and are greatly depressed.

Arkansas, : has been arrested on suspicion
of being concerned In, the recent robbery
of passenger on that boat. He was searched

ing particulars of the suicide of William
Mathena:
Last night William 31athena committed
suicide, about, 10 o'clock by taking mor
phine. Some time between 0 and 7 o'clock
inlthe evening he entered Dick's Saloon, at
the corner of First and Locust streets, and
asked for, a glass of water. lie then took
from his pocket a paper that contained
three other papers, and emptied the con
tents of two papers into a glass of water
Which he drank, saying at the time, "I
guess that is enough to send me home."
lie then threW the third paper on the coun-,
ter, and , the bark r, on picking it up,'
found that it was labelled "Morphine, SK
grains.", From thence it appears that he
went to the store of S. Gamble, on 'First
street., The • young man In attendance
there states that he entered the store about
seven w ith , and that after some,conversa,
tion him it was discovered that ha
was In a sinking condition, but it was Sup
posed that he was intoxicated. Shortly af
tin he stink to the floor, and after some
time it wasdiscovered ho was '
p_hysician was sent for but it was too_ late,.

quest was held on the body 'at 12 o'clock.
