OFFICE OF TEE PTrifUDEO4I. GAZETTE,
MONDAY, May-4, 1868. s
More than one-third of the gold interest

were 139 1 ,, and at the opening of business
this morning quotations remained-the
some; towirds noon the ntarketwas firm
at 139%, and dosed 71thlsomeectivity
at
139%. The amount of bonds held , abroad
was generally ; °estimated as being between
three and fourhundied millions, but the
few -, coupons coming in of the old Five
Twenties is a good proo f that at least two
thirds of the ! IMP. bonds, and about one
half of 1865, old issue, are held by foreign
capitalists. To make up the payments or
rather remittances fOr this interest nearly
all the shipments of coin have been re
quired during the last fortnight, the quota
tions for bonds being too high for invest
ment. Taking all these facts into consid
eration, there is a (probability that gold
will advance later in . the season, when the
effeci , ,, of the,' preiseiltl payment has :died
away. On the other hand, it should not be
overlooked that our imports are comparing_

there is no inquiry f or any other kind than
the Consols, whit were selling at g per

Stocks are quiet; the western roads sus

are very lightly dealt in. Money is easier
