PITTSBURGH PETROLEUM MARKET
OFFICE OF THE PITTSBURGH GAZETTE,
SATURDAY. April 25, 1868. 5
CRUDE—The crude market has been.
'Very firm and 'considerably excited dui
,
ing the past two or three days, and an ad
vance of fully.three-quarters of a cent has
been establisheti. ispet -oil, which at the
opening of the week was , quiet at
closed firox_to.day at 034 e, With sales of 1800
bbls reported. The supply, both here and
above, is reported light, and to this, more
than anything else, may be attributed the
advance, as the advices from Antwerp. the
leading Eurppea' n market, are anything but
favorable—tbe latest cable telegram report
ing a still further decline. As we, noted
yesterday, the matter of production is be
ing agitated considerably and as a matter
of course, It is seldom that any two men
will agree on this important subject. One
is confident that the production certain
ly falling off—that it is nothing like it was
three months ago; while another, whose
knowledge of trade is equally _ as good, will
tell you that there is an abundance of oil at
the wells, that the, production is instead of
falling off, is increasing, and that'a number
of new wells have been tapped within a
short time. Of one thing, however, there
can be no disputing, and that is, that the
market has stiffened up very much within
the past day or two, and that an important
advance has beenestablished.
REFDTED—The market for bonded oil
has also beert remarkably stiff during the
past•two or.three days,
and in sympathy
with Crude, prices both for present and fu
ture delivery have advanced. The, sales to
day were 8,000 bbls-Lrl,ooo,eaeh for Septem
ber October and November at 2930, and
2,040 bbls for May at 26%c.. spot oil is quo
ted firm at 263‘e; May "id - 2634 c to 2690;
June at 27 to 27 1 A,c,.and July at 28c. Yes
terday there was a sale for, all the year,
buyer's option, at 32c, and we feel pretty
confident ths e t no one . -. would have sold to
day below thit,:figure4 There is and has
been for several days past quite an active
demand both for present and future de
livery, and the only reason, and it Is a very
.".d one, why we have not more sales re
ported, is owing to the fact that there are
Ibtit, few sellers as our rethtertyaS It gene
ratl thing, seem dispel:tied ito'hold off in an
,ticipation that there wilrbe a stilifprther
"advance. •
