FROX THE uzamAN-Br J. A. ADLER.
Near Colmar stood In days of yore.••
A tower so sombre and So hoar .
Of aspect, which the land appalled,
And it was the witch-tower called. •
There carried on weird work
• The wizard and the witches,
With bosom and with fork,
With gold and magic switches.
.
, . The tower hang since has disappeared. -
Nor are the witches now much feared:
; Yet bft, kvhirtforrdear midnight's sake,
1, Thin calm fait-moth alone's awake,.
—There rises on the strand

• ".k.liastling-and a prattling.
And lo iamott, like rocket-flre,
' -*The tower starts up, and the wild ehoir
With hurried dance surround the fort,
*Midmusic, song and maddening sport;
- They ride upon their brooms, - '
Fast belter-skel ter prancing,
Clattering like mills or looms,
Humming as they're ads:lrwin .
And ever louder swells their song, •
And ever madder leaps the throng,
Troughout the whole of livelong night •
Until the sun shows broad daylight; ,
Then they hush up anon,
Diving and disappearing, 1
And are now seen by none
