—ln the, suit brought. in Boston against
the Marino National Bank of New York, to
recover for the loss of a .trunk .;containing
bonds valued-at about $lOO,OOO, Judge Hoar
directed the jury to find for the defendants,
mainly on the ground that there was no
evidence of negligence on the part of the .
Bank shown by the plaintiff% holding that
the mere loss of a special deposit; when
there is a posibility of loss from other cause
than negligence, would not authorize the
jury in finding a verdict against the Bank.
—lt is announced that at the monthly
I meeting of the President and Board of Di
rectors of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad,
held at New York last Week, it was agreed
to Issue $2,000,000 of stock. This is done to
aid in completing the Pittsburgh and Con
nellstille railroad, and also to assist other
enterprises, such as .ocean steamship lines.
A semi-annual dividend of four per cent.
on the main stem and five per cent. do. on
the Washington branch was declared.
—The Chicago Tribune, of Tuesday, says:
The "shortage" question is adjusting itself.
Some ten or twelve charters were made to
day on the old bill of lading,. Which would
inaicato that the shippers haVe backed
down front the attitude taken by them'
ftgainst the vessel owners. Probably they
intend to try and recover, if possible, from
the elevators, in ease of loss by-shortage.

PITTSBURGH PETROLEUM MARKET.
OFIFCE OF TILE PITTSBURGH GAZETTE, E .
• WEDNESDAY, April - 15, 1608. i
• , CRUDE—The crude market was-quiet
but steady to-day, and while the demand
was - ardy, moderate, the disposition to sell
did not seeni to be as strong as 'during the
two or three days preceding, and holders,
if anything, were a little firmer. We can
Irepert 500 bbls on spot, at B%c; 2200 bbls to
I be delivered on this water, at Sy,e; and we
we are cognizant of a negotiation pending
for two thousand barrels, to be delivered
- on this water, at B%c, but at last accounts,
it had not een consummated. It was
thought a day or two ago that prices would
probably decline a little, under _the influ
ence of the resumption 'or navigation and
increased arrivals, but thus far these an
ticipations have been realized, and it does
look now as if they would be sustained.
The arrivals are not likely to prove as large
1 as some had been led to suppose, and
another thing, a great proportion of what
will arrive will have to- be put in on old
contracts, so that in reality, there will be
but comparatively little oil thrown upon
the market.
{REFINED . —The market for bonded oil
is quiet but firm and - unchanged. We can
report sales of 1000 bbls for the first-half of:
June at 253.1 c; 1000 kit. last half of same
month, at 20 ~c; and a "line" of 500 each,
for August, September,lOctober and No
vember, at 28%c. There may have been
other sales, but these were the orily ones
reported, and were it not for ~the . extreme
views Of holders, we have 'no doubt the '
transactions would be much larger in the
aggregate. Spot or April delivery may be
quoted at 25c; May at 2534 c; June 25% to
2614 c; and July at 26;4 to 270. For all the
year, buyer's option, there has not been a
single sale for some time past; and .in the
absence of which, we quote nominally at
31c.
