Snow fell all forenoon yesterday, and in the afternoon t[_•e trees were com pletely covered, and there must have been at least three inches on the ground. When the snow goes off, and it will not lay long, we may look for another - freshet—probably the biggest one we have yet had this spring. The Echo had not arrived from Oil City up to two o'clock last evening, but she will douptless be found in port this morning. The towboats J. S. Neal, Lion and Star ctoared for Cincianati and Louisville on Saturday 3vith tows of coal, and others will, no doubt, follow to-day if the water does not get down too low. The J. Di. McCullough, Capt. Geo. W. Moore, is the regular Parkersburglpacket to-day, leaving promptly at noon, and passengers and shippers should bear this in mind. The St. Charles did not get off until about nine o'clock on Friday night, having been delayed until that time in getting in her freight. It is said that she g,ot in all near two hundred tons, including one item of 150 barrels of ale for Ports mouth. The Importer, Capt. John A. Williams, is now in turn for St. Louis and Port Ben ton, and will be the first boat out, leaving to-morrow evening. The Importer isjust off the dock, and is, therefore, in excellent condition, for btisiness., She will be fol r lowed by the Silver Lake, Captain Todd. Both of these boats are connected with the "Rees Line.' The R. C. Grey, Capt. Anderson, will be the first boat out for Cincinnati and. Louis ville. The Grey will receipt freight through 'to Memphis and New Orleans, with the privilege of reshipping. The following named boats were in port on Saturday afternoon: Argosy, Cornelia; Kate Robinson. Glasgow, Importer, Mag gie Hays, Ida Rees No. 1, Leonidas, Dela ware, Grey Eagle and Bayard. The Emmd and Glasgow cleared for St. , Louis on Saturday with good trips. The great pioportion of .the Glasgow's freight was for the tipper Mississippi, and she will, no doubt, go clear through to St. Paul. The Kate 'Robinson left fore Cincinnati and Louisville with her guards dragging in the water. The • Grey Eagre arrived from Parkersburg a little behind time, and cleared again. The Ida Rees No. 2 clehred for .oil City 11. with a very good trip, a the Echo No. 2 is the regular Tueseay . pa ket. The Silver Cloud arrived at Davenport on the 6th. The folks wereglad to see this through boat from Pittsburgh. It is stated by St. Paul papers that the Norahwestern Packet Company intend run ning the Sheridan, Itasca, and several others, - between St. Louis and St. Paul, in opposition to the Nor hern Line. Let them come. The more ti e merrier. Among the passengers brought down by the Mittie Stevens, says a New Orleans ex chan,ge, where some fifty Indian ball play ersfrom the Nation, on a starring tour for therWest, In a few Olympic games, after the' manner of the noble savage. - While the steamer starlight - was lying at New Orleans last Friday, some hay took fire in her hold, but was extinguished without any material damage to the boat. St. Soseph has been startled by the ar rival of a fleet of small boats containing a large number of gentlemen without hats, from the Upper Missouri. A telegram from Captain W. H. Itnyte, reports the total loss on the 4th of this month of the steamer Florence Traber, she h e aving sunk at Collier's Landing, Arkan sas river. The boat was insured in Cin cinnati for $lO,OOO-42,000 each 'in the fol lowing effices: Enterprise, Union, Ameri can, Central Ohio Valley. The Cincinnati annmercia/ says: Capt. Sweeney contemplates putting the St. Marys in the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati trade, in connection with the St: Charles. The matter will be definitely decided on her arrival at Wheeling and Pittsburgh. We clip the following from a late Louis ville exchange: The steamer Louisville arrived from New Orleans early yesterday and made several desperate etforts to as cend the falls. She could not make the turn or stem the current, and had to fall back to. Portland. The St. Mary's, that had been laid-up at New Albany, came over to the Portland wharf yes;erday. She evidently expects to ascend the falls on the first rise. The New State came in from Pittsburgh early yesterday with a fine 'load of iron, glass and manufactured articles generally, and has 1,006 bags of wheat engaged for her return trip to Pittsburgh. The grain is being shipped by Brandeis d Craw corps. i • The Armenia, from Pittsburgh, and the Emperor, from Cincinnati, passed down yesterday for St. Louis. The New Albany .Ledger says: Some weeks ago a corpse was brought to this city on the steamer Dexter by a lady who was on her way. East to bury ,it, it having been dlsintered at New Orleans, and placed on the boat as that of her husband. Upon the arrival of the boat here it was discovered that the wrong corpse had been, sent up, and it was left in charge of Messrs. Beamer do Co. until lt - dould - be 'ascertained what disposial &Mild be „made -'of .it. By tele graph to New Orleans, and through Capt. Montgomery and Mr. Smith, of the . Dexter it has been ascertained that the corpse brought here was that of Capt. Charles F. Reynolds, a well known clerk and com mander on the river. When this fact was made • known Capt. Reamer determined that - he would see to its proper Tairial.: He has written to Frankfort, R,y., where Capt. Reynolds once resided, but all his efforts, to find any relatives of the deceased in this vicinity have failed. He has determined, however, to purchase a lot in the , cemetery here ane have the remains properly inter red. Several steamboatmen in this • city and Louisville have informed capt. Rey mer that they will assist him with the ne cessary funds. This is perfectly proper, as it would be asking too much for him to in cur thax&enpense alone. Capt. Reynolds died in New Orleans abopt a year ag,o from yellow fever, if we remember aright: - • The Groat Republic left. Memphs Sunday night for New Orleans, having added 1272_ bales cotton. The second clerk of the Pine Grove, Robert Seymour, who disappeared from Nashville mysteriously about two months since, has turned up in St. Louis. A St. Louis telegram, under date of Fri day,. says: The Illinois River packets bring daily consignments for reshipment by the river and ocean to Boston, New York, (to. A consignment of this kind from Chicago wasTeceived here yesterday and transferred to the New OrleanS Barge Line.
