Gold opened at 139%, declined to 139%,
was strong and. fluctuated during the day
front 139% to 139%, and closed dull at 139%,
'with 4 downward tendency. The cause .of
the .weakness of the gold market is at
tributed to the failure - Of the foreign bank
ers to keels their bills to the specie shipping
pOint.' : but the number of bills on the Mar
ket is in excelsS of the demand, lowenrates
arc accepted, and a large amount of gold
pressed on the Market at ivmoment when
money is scarce and commands from 7to
9 per cent. on collateral. The bulls in gold
have such-an unprofitable lot to carry that
many get discouraged and sell, perhaps, at
the eve of a sharpyise, which is almoSt un
avoidable.
Bonds; in sympathy with the /lodine in
gold, have been presed on the' market and
sold from !Y, per cent. les,s than early
in the day. This does not come unexpected,
'AS it was only a brokers market, and the
public had, no interest in the rise; but more
at stake at a. deOline.
