alias John Shafer, the munlerer of Lll
needle!, ,Teutor and Ulrich; and the
would-bc murderer of Allajor White, all
of this city, was hanged this afternoon
In a field adjoining the Northwestern
pike ' about two miles out of town.
- The weather was cloudy and wet, and
tho roads knee-deep with mud. Not
withstanding this, a crowd of over are
thousand; of both sexes, a few mounted
or riding' in wagons, were there to see
the execution of one of the moat cold
blooded murderers known ha the annals
of crime.
Tim prisoner, escorted by his confessor,
Father Parke, arrived at the seaffold
about L1.b.30 p. rn. He made no address,
but handed to a friend a written coulee

maintained a calm and stolid manner,
and ascended the gallows with a firm

The prop fell at nne o'clock, and life

lifting of the hand. one would have aup
