A meet wonderful story rearthes us
from Sion.Mitia: a tale which we should
hardly credit, were it not related to us by
one whom we consider worthy cif cre
dence. The gentleman who related the
circumstance to us came down by the
steamer yesterday, and had himself con. I
versed with Mr. Edward Paraons, one of
the lucky adventurers, who gave hilt
the following particulars:
In July louts company of hive prospec
tors was made up in Relate, who having
heard of the unexplored country around
the head of the Yellowatobe, determlded
to visit that district in search of lodes.
The country was found to be almost en
tirely free Iron Indians, and there was
abundance of game until they arrived
within two days journey of Yellowstone I
Lake, when the teens entirely changed,
the country being entirely barren, and
permeated In every direction with hot
springs and fissures In the rock, from
which isaned smoke emu noxious gases.
Continuing their journey through a
scorching atmosphere, and encountering
some peril alnongthe rough and Irregu
lar ridges of bare rocks, which every- 1
where distinguished the landscape, tee
travelers on the third day, came to the
margin of a lake, from which issued a
river, which they jpdged would lead to
the Yellowetono. lAfter following the
stream for some ti e, they came to a
long. Irregular me red, crowned on the
summit by an am ant "earn," similar
to thee seen in so eparts of New Mex
ico, which woo if concealed in grass
and a growth of leer bushee.
i f
As the work of removing the stoup did
not appear to be a difficult see, they be
ing uticementeu an d of medium site, it
proposedwaproposed to o n the "earn," which
was none after hal a day's labor, and
below was found a'eolid cemented floor,
which sounded hollow to the tread.. Be
ing determrned to f jcomplete their work,
the travelers, a ei some labor, dug
down some oxelvir inches, when they
came to an immettee stone, moon feet
long, which it toolcthe united strength of
the party to remove. Beneath there
was a loog, low chember, and when the
1 eyes of the intenders became accustomed
to the darkness, It was seen that an In
dian catacomb had been unearthed.
beated In a single row around the quad
rangle were the remains of upwards of
thirty warriora, from whose tortes the
flesh had long abate moldered aware, and
whose very bones crumbled Into dust at
the touch of the spectator. On the floor
around lay numerous instruments of
war or chase, some of Iron and some of
stone, and the entire apartment was cov
ered with a fine end almost impalpable
duet, which was all that remained of the
furs and robes with which Ode abode of
death hod doubtless, at sine time, been
carpeted,
Lying beside the bones ware numerous
ornaments, indlqating the rank of the
dead, and among them were many of
those twisted circlets of gold known to
antiquarians as tergoes, which had at end
time entwined ths necks and the arms of
their savage owners. Some of these
were of unusual eke, weighing - one and
a half to two potted*, and many minor
ornaments of thee same precione metal
were also secured by the happy tinders.
What chleily attracted attention was,
however, a maadve basin or kettle that
occupied the cabers of the apartment,
and was doubtle.sa used as a sacrificial
censer, for burning incense, it being two
feet high and two feet and a half in cir
cumference. This maastre article, won
derful to tell, prteil on inspection to be
re
pa gold, and as so heavy that the
party had great-difficulty In removing it
from Its resting place and bringing It
Into the upper air. L'ndeavors were then
made to break the vessel, but the pure
quality of the gold caused it only to bend
beneath the weight of the blows Inflicted
upon it.
Atter great exertions the adventurers
were enabled, hymens:ls of theirs/es, to
sever the mass Into portable pieces,
laden with which the patty turner! their

relief to the burdened animals. The
whole amount or gold was brought to
Relents, and Mr. Edward Parsons calcu
lated that his shore of the treasure
amounted to abo it Vl,OOO, the whole
being about $105,000 in value. Mr. Par
