into Italians, or the descendants' of such.
If this had been made to appear, there
would have remained thiStilLmore

The great Boman Catholic gathering
at Rome, to celebrate the Centenary of,
St. Peter, will be a grand affair. The
number of ecclesiastics la Much larger
than at first expected, and it is thought
• buifew laymen will be present. Though

mull one of the last days of this month, a
great many dignitsr:es a:rived In May.
A. great numb er of high Church dignita
ries also were expected. The Bishop of
Tolosa will be present, with a suite of
eighty priests. Such arc enormous reti

Bishop of Moulins arrived in Rome with
a train of sixty-five ecclesiastics. Ac
cording to recent letters from Rome, the
festival will be almost exclusively eccle
siastical.' Twenty-five American: Pre
lates have left for Rome. The Calltalk,
of this city says Bishop Domenec of this
Diocese reached Southampton, England,
on the Itli Inst„ en route for Rome. The
oilier Prelates In the same vessel were
in excellent health. Complaint is made
that' he Popo is quite prodigal in his ex

cardinals.; But millions are expected
from Me bishops who are to arrive; it
seemito . be thought they will all come
with heavy chests ofgold. The vest il

will be magnificent. There are not los

been sent for from Naples and Florence.
The municipal council have voted 50,000
francs for the celebration of the day.
The Rev. Dr. Curry, of the Christian

the medium of the gospel in the world,
'because he would have his word hum

placed its rapport. Be thinks, however,
if there is anything else worse than read
