Yesterday morning a family of Ger
mans, consisting of a Min and his wife
and threechildre ,o, evidently in very
poor citToreatanceef arrived here on the
Atlantic and Gnat Western. train, en
'reef.: for Cincinnati, to which'place they
had secured transportation from New
York. 'As the train failed to • connect
with the forenoon train on the Cinch:l,-
1 nail, Harrillten and Dayton Road, the
family was obliged to lay over here for
the evening train.; -
For a while the poor family remained
on the platform, until some one invited
-thief to go into the ladles' room and be
seated. The people seemed to ; shrink
Rom obeervation, and were grouped to
gether in one corner of the room. The
woman was holding an infant in her
arms, and a lady who happened to pass
close to her noticed that it talked like a
corpse, and, as she could speak the Ger
man language, eke asked the poor wo
man what was the matter with her child.

into uncontrollable lamentation, declar
ing that her child was de.d.
As soon as the grief-stricken mother
could partially control herself, she in
formed the lady' that they were very
pre . ; that they had Just means enough to
get to New York, and purchase a sec
ond clam ticket to Cincinnati, where
they had friends; that they had-no
'money to purchase stood, and, were
afraid to ask anybody for something to
eat; and that'. they bad suffered in si.

The most shocking , tragedy that it ever
became our duty ID record, happened in
this city last Sunday morning. Louis
Risley, - a bar-keeper In the Central Sa
loon, was a man about twouty-eight years
of age, and for two - years or so a -real•
dent of thin place. For several months
past - he has been in ill health. Lie was
addicted'to hard drinking, and within
the last week-had an attack of deliriam
tremens. Aiter the attack' he expressed
himself to sevoral persons as of the opin
ion •that it he had any more attacks of
the kind be should kill soma one, and it
would as likely 'be kin, nearest friend as
any; that his "head was not exactly
right any war." This. It appears, with.
not enough to alarm any one or to give
apprehensions that he wan dangerously
insane.
Saturday nicht, between the hours of
twelve and one o'clock, there wan a par
ty engaged in a game of whist at the
Central Saloon, one of whom was Terri
'torsi Controller, Mr. H. B. Lane. Ris
ley was unending the bar, and wad asked
by Lane to bring socce,..drinks for the
table. Risley answered. pleasantly, and
*eat behind the bar, as was suppond
for that purpose. Several persons sitting
by observed nothing in his actions unu
sual, or that could in the slightest degree
excite suspicion. But a few moments
elapsed when, be was seen to go from
behind the bar to thel corner of the bil
liard table and I , !vel , a revolver atibe

The following are the particulars of
one of the moat Striking cases of youth.

, keys since, a yoring girl, aged about six.

clergyman of this city, accompanied by
the daughter of 'a highly esteemed ex
county official, also about sixteen yearn
of age, left the home of the former, as
they stated, to talk a

time they had not returned, but nothing
was thought of :this fact. Time rolled
on till the clock struck nine, and still the
girls had not made their appearance.
The parents now became quite uneasy,
fearing thatmemo accident might have
befallen their loved ones, and the der
gyman immediately started for the reef
deuce of the ex-official, to see if the girls
*ere not there. They were .not to be
found, however. The two .gentlemen
then started- out in pursuit of them.
They visited the residences of all their
manat intimate friends, but could obtain
no tidings of the' missing ones. They

and then worn out with anxiety, return

On the day following, and in fact Cu'
every day for a week, the search was
proceeded with, but all to np pnrpose, I

ing a suspicion crossed the mind of the
official that his daughter, from what he',
