came front a profortuder depth than pdx

feeling exists that some eßiation otueht
to be made to the Offended majest9 of

we have repeatedly urged that It watt

There - are men of great intelligence
mid moral purity who _take Isdifferent
view. They think that Justice can best
be vindicated by Marcy, and that the
nation can be sooner restored to oneness
by Clemency than by Vigor. There Is
much force in what Is presented to sus

to It. Moriover It must be confessed,
that when stonily passions sweep over a
nation, stiring it ,
to its lowest depths,
severe exactions arc received with
a degree of favor which appears most,

is full of lessons on this point. which are
seldom read to profit when there is most

Large masses of cinder from these Prim
