John Ilarkison, who claims residence In
Waterford, Erie county, appeared before
the Mayor Tuesday, In a decidedly much
abused condition. lie represented that he
belonged to Haight Chambers' circus,
now exhibiting in the city, and was em
ployed us a eanvassinan; that on Monday,
one of the employees, Charles Brown, of
liemplan, hoisted, by mistake, a rebel flag
on the center pole, and ordered Harrison,
the complainant, to take it down, as it
not suit in Pittsburgh; Harrison farther
says that he told Brown he ought to have
had bettor sense than to put rip' the wrong
flag, when Brown called him an ugly name
and knocked hint down. Following this It
appears that Ilarrhion had Brown arrested
for assault and battery, for which proceed
leg, according to Harrison's story, three
other circus into, on Tuesday evening, fell
upon and' beat him. placing him in the
plight In which he appeared at the Mayor's
ottlee. Brown was again arrested, and with
him other circus attaches, bet upon the In
vestigation -of the matter a story quite
different from that related by Harrison wan
told, and It is but fair that both sides should
be heard, inasmuch as tee representations

colored tan, named Joseph Lang, soppos

assaulted him. 'When brought before the
Alderman, the evidence showed clearly that
