In pursuance of a call Issued, by litsboy Rerroot. a meeting was held at the Board of Trade P.ooms. Friday forenotin, to take some measures tp collect funds and sup plies for the relief of the suffering Door of the 00010. Tho meeting was called to order by W.G. Johnston, Esq., upon whose motion Bishop lierfoot was called upon to preside. The Chairman. stated the meeting had been called In response to a circular issued by the Philadelphia Southern Iteilef Fund Association, the objects or which Were al ready known. William W. Ward, Esq., remarked that three meottage had already been held, and he thought lc would be useless to organize another association. Thera were three agencies through which fundifeould be col lected in this city, and he was in favor of oar citizens sending in their contributions either to the ene or the other. tie thought relief should be liberally extended, but was of the opinion that another organisation would only embarrass efforta now being made. r.• It. Brunet, thought the apparent apathy which seems to pervade our citi zens could be explained by the fact that for mouths previous to the call for a public meeting measures foe the relief of the Southern poor had been taken by the churches, and that persons bad contributed through them according to their ability. lie knew the people felt.•an interest in the matter, and he thought the appeals to the people to forget their prejudices were In sulting. Through the efforts of the Pose much had beta done, and BAY. Joseph Tea vent, agent for the Freedmen's Aid Society, had alto distributed a considerable sum of monerin reliefs. In the objects aimed at, and in behalf of ourselves and our fellow-citizens of Pittsburgh, promise to contribute, IA we have been doing, of our means through the existing agencies for the relief of the suf fering, Resolved, That In view of the fact that for months past thin: work has been quietly progressing, through collections Li the churches and individual effort. and that our sympathies and business relations more closely connect us with the Sotithwes% where chledy our funds have hitherto been sent, we deem. inexpedient to organise a britUch of the Philadelphia society. Bean! red, That wo earnestly commend the cause as calling for renewed liberality on the part Of the people of Western Perinsyl v.., and, that more may be aocomplialt ed, that the Chairman of this meeting Is re quested to appointcollerding committeesln tee wards of the cities end boroughs, and a Central Executive Committee of five per so., whose duty it shall be to receive and • distribute the feuds and supplies central,. uted, and to take such other measures ea they may deem bast to advance the objects ot their appointment. Rese/rol, That. the Chairman of this meet ' ing be requested to Issue an address to the citizens of Western Pennsylvania In behalf of this object. Major Joseph M. Bev. Joseph S. Travail, agent of the Freed. men's Aid Society.. lbw. Mr. Wilson concurred with the relic. !talons in part. It might to better to form another channel through which oentriou- trona could be received. Many might object to the existing agen icl=3 he thought It would be proper to afford them en opportunity to give. lie had no doubt of the sufferings of the South, and bid God speed to those engaged In efforts for their relief. . V.V. Tramsill stated that he bad re ceived upwards of $4900 ,for the relief °tithe poor of the South, all of which had been contributed without solicitation. Ile had couverson with parties direct from Tennew see and Northern Alabama, and from their euttements he was led to Geller° that the sufferings had been somewhat exaggerated, at least in the portions lett they Dad tray elel in.
