A. temporary organizatirM wee erected by
calling Governor J. W. Cleary to the chair
and appointing a number of secretaries.
On taxing the chair, the Governor made
quite a telling speech, which was received
with frequent demonstrations of applause.
Among the etatements hailed with the great
eat enthusimm was the announcement that
General Grant was about to identify him
self with the temperance movement.
In the absence of the committee on per
manent organization. Ur. J. it. Stearns. an
aged gentleman, from Kew Tort, we be
neve, made a very.LiumorousspeeCk.
The commute on permanent organization
nominated General L. Wageer, of Philadel
phia, as chairman. A large number of Vice
Presidents were also nominated, among
wham we recognised some familiar names
from "Old Allegheny" and other counties
in the western part of the atato.
Oe assuming the duties of his office Gen
eral Weimer made a short, but peintr;ul ad
dress. A business committee of fifteen was
then appointed with Mr. Illaek. of Lanes..
ter, as chairman. Some gentleinee from
Allegheny, were members of the Commit
tee. After hearing a number of addressee,
the Convention adjourned ngti coven
o'clock.
The 31111/110811 Committee opera nearly
four boars in returning their r ep ort- We
understand that on loom polas they had
a very lengthy and animated discussion.
There were only one or two palette on which
there was not ttelielllOUS agreement, and
these were mere matters of policy.
On the reassembling of the Convention at
seven o'clock, the Committee on Business
reported. The reportwas very lengthM.

owns In the Ii•SeTTII. It would be uselms
then to transcribe it, as the present prone
ore onyour Conning would 'prevent Its
publication.
The report wag discussed at great length,
and the Convention did not adjourn till
about eleven o'clock. It was adopted es
rad almost. • The amendments offered
were of a verbal charecter merely.
Thu report recognises the good prorri

vokes a continuation of the amistance which
they have hitherto given. It recommends
the passage of an •bsolute prohibitory law,
and declares that, none brit temperance men
meat be elevated to any office, however
humble or distinguished. The resolutions
on these points wore passed amidst the
highest enthusiasm, the vast assembly
rising spontaneously to their feet end sing-

They believe that the mlllenium of temper.;
mice will soon be ushered in; and, believing
strong asservations made en the floor of the
Convection, they are determined to wage
relentiesa warfare against everything that
may stand In the trey of Its approach.
The Convention Will meet to.morrow
morning at nine o'clock, and will, In all
probability, got through about noon. •
No imainess of Importance to the western
