There is a decided improvement noticea
olo In Railroad stocks; the shares of all the
leading railroads have advanced 34 per
cent. Cleveland, Fort Wayne and Nfuth
Western are the strongest on the list.
Molders of Fort Wayne are principally
huge Capitalists, and the majority of them
are ortglital subscribers to Ohio and.Penn
eylvania Railroad stock, which wee prin.
cllially taken at Frankfort. North Western
shares are strong., and money if remains
easy, will command their former prices -36
037 and 64005,respectively for common and
preferred. Cleveland and Pittsburgh la
strong, but, anch a Small road is a mere
football for small cliques, and unsafe to
handle..
Government securities are lower tcsday,
in sympathy with the decline in Europe,
and large blocks of bonds will arrive Dore
soon from Europe; a decline of old. Five.
Twenties must necessarily depress other
descriptions of bonds. Gold opened at
IBiji, but jumped to 1484 j, declined to no%
and is now strong at MX, with an adyanc
ing tendency.
James T. Brady d Co., bankers, cor
ner of Fourth and Wood streets, dealers in
Government Securities, quote the same in
New York today as Pillows:

—ln some quarters it is stated as a fart,
that by the terms of the act under which
the f-Ne were issued the right to convert
them into 3-93 bonds may - be cut off on the
day of their maturity, thus rendering It
expedient for holders of 7-Ne of the drat

very formable indeed. On this subject, of

answer the parl3ololl of such redemption,
When the notes mature. In our Judgment
such a bond should have been prepared
and tendered to the haiderzln advance; but
this has not been done. Those who hare
exchanged have taken the bonds of July,
ISO, while the government and Gs . agents
have bought freely of the notes, and sold
out the bonds to cover as the lll:mutations
in the Markt gave them opportunity. The

At maturity, for all such purposes, moans

The operations in cattle were again very
light this week, reaching Only about two
hundred head, all told. The reason fdithis
is very simple; there teas no supply, and
while there were buyers, and that, too, at
extreme prices, the pens heist tamest en
tirely deserted, they had no chance to do
anything. The great proportion of the cat
tle are being shipped through to New• York
on Western account, but very few offered
for sale at these yards, and to this more
than anything else, may be attributed the
very light volume of business for several
weeks past, Compared with last week,
prices remain about the same, though an
extra drove of cattle, had them been any
such here would doubtless have brought a
tancy ligure. The highest prim reported' is
ay:, though a nice bunch of tat steers would
have brought 9, and possibly 93 to tl4.
