The river rose rapidly during Thursday
night and all day yesterday, and was still
swelling steadily last evening, with nearly
twenty-three feet in the channel. The rise
thus Jar has•been principally In the Alle
gheny, though the Monongahela rose con
siderably, and It was reported in too after•
noon that there were thirty foot at Browns
ville, but this is doubtless alt exaggeration.
At last accounts, the 'Allegheny was fulling
at 011 City, with but six feet in the channel
at that point, and it is said that the ice Is

freshet has not done snitch damage, with
the exception of carrying off a number of

There has been no arrivals or departures
