About a year ago there was organized at
Auburn, In this State, an express company
w hich now bears the name of the Merchants'
•Cnion Express Company. It was thought
by many people that the old Mel long mtab
tithed express companies of the United
States, which had become huge concerns,
and grown immensely wealthy out of the.
profits of their earnings, charged too high
a price for the carryieg and delivery - of
goods, and in =my instances Were unwill•
lag to' make thismielves re pOnalble for mat
ter left in their hoods, or which became lost
or injured while going from point to point.
To remedy this evil, and establish sheet by
competition, a new company was formed.
