...The demand certificate bill, (says the
Philadelphia Press) notwithstanding the
endorsement given to airy Mr. McCulloch,
and the active eo.opciration of the national
banks to secure Its adoption by Cpagreas. Is
meeting with intense opposition from all
quarters. The bill is being thOrOughly yen.
Mated, that which at first sight
eeented to recommend It to public favor is
most effectually used np by opposers of the
bill to defeat its adoption. The sanction
which the Secretary of the Treasury gives
to it commits that -officer to a lips of policy
directly contrary to • all Ida previous pro
tensions and .avowals. This bill la celes
tially in favor Of it further expansion of the
currency, while , Mr. McCulloch has labored
ever since his Fart Warm speech to create
an Impresaion In the public mind that be
was in favor of contraction - then, now, and
all the time. It may possibly be that this
reversal of yolk:y.ls occasioned out of do.
[arcade to public scuMment and 'the inter.
eats of business. Too hasty contraction In
the present cirounistancea of the country
would work incalculable evil, by oughtsg
the growing enterprise of the nation, and
checklegite Industry and material growth.
