Several Causes have conspired to restrict
'operations in metal attiring the past weak,
and while the market is less active, and the
'demand loss urgent, as yet, prices are still
maintained. There is still a fair demand for
desirable brands of nett Short Irene, but Neu
tral irons me dull, and to some extant, ne
'glected, and the supply is reportc somewhat
id excess of the ilea:rand. During the early
part of the week the impression • seemed to
prevail that general suspension of opera
tions by all tile mills wo a ul a d n occur very soon,
and this, of course, had t d qicy to restrict
the demand for metal; but, since then, this
movement being discredited, a rather better
feeling is noticeable, though there Is no im
prevenient to note in the general tone of the
