• The district inepided to this Convention was
composed of-the townships of Chart Sere, Lint
on, Lower and Upper St. Clair, Scott, North
and South Fayette, Robinson and Snowden.
The,serviCeewere held in Ilanetield vlllage, in
the Methodist Episcopal Church, on October
zal and :ALM Twenty-four 'schools were repre
sented by seventy-four delegates, and most of
the past Ors living within thealstriet were also
present. Rev. Calhoun w as chosen temporary
chairman, who opened the Convention at 10
A. Y., by reading the 100th Psalm, people
that on earth do dwell," ge., which was sung
to the tune of "Old licmdreth" by the congre
gation. Alter prayer by Rev. br. Davidson
and a. voluntary by the choir, the Dr.. by pre
vious invitation, delivered a pointed, well di.
gesterl -and eloquent sermon on the • text
"Train up a child," ao. Rev. Hutchinson led
In prayer, and the choir sang the anthem, "Oh,
praise God in Ills holiness." Convention then
elected the following °dicers:

All the questions on the printed programme
were thoroughly discussed. The result is em.
lx:slied in the resolutions ivca below.
An interesting feature- of the Convention
wan the singing of the children and the choir,
and sermons to the children on the first day by
Rev. Dr. Howard, and on the second day by
Rev. litiller.Jr.
The Convention effected a permanent-organ
leatten called "Chortler Valley Sabbath School
Association and Institute." and elected the
following officers tor the ensuing rear: Col.
ilugb Lee, President; Rev. 1. C. Boyd, Vice
?nutrient; Executive Committee—Rev. Hutch.
tenon, Chairman; Dr. Marshall, Itev. Calhoun,
Rev. Marks, A. B. Young; 11.8. Brown, Itecordl
lug Secretary; L B, Borland, Corresponding.
Secretary; Rev. Kennedy, Treasurer.
The Convention adjourned at 9 o'cloelr, p. m.
on Wednesday, after instructing the Secrete
rtestoprepare &letter to be addresseddhrough
the papers; to the churches and settee's in
cluded within the district.
The choig, composed of the young ladles and
gents of the various churches, sang, in conclu
sion, the grand old anthem; "Praise God from
Whom all blessings flow.
Only sixteen schools of the twenty-four rep
resented presented reports. These report one
hundred and titirtY-nine eginers and teachers,
and eleven hundred and twenty-three at:hol
e:ay Only ten scnools reported the aggregate
nutither of volumes in libraries, it being Iwo
thousand six honored and eighteen volumes.
Seven schools reported an aggregate of two
hundred and fifty-live Sabbath Seirool papers.
Six schools report that they discoutinne oper
ations during the winter. Several schools re
port that there are many In their resuective
neighborhood who do not attend any Sabbath
School. With these statistics the Committee
offer the following resolution: •[
Resotred. That Sabbath SchhoOl officers
should carefully collect and preserve the sta
tratles of their schools.

The following resolutions were unatilmous
ly adopted:
L. Resolved, That the Sabbath School is a most
valuable auxiliary to the diet en, an efficient
instrument in the religlous.traintug of youth,
and possesses the strongest clones upon elms.

material support, . as "the nursery of the
church."
1. That no congregation should be without a
well conducted Sabbath Schofili nod, in addi
tion to the school or schools established for the
children of the church and others In their
midst, Mission Schools should be established
in destitute localities, that thus religious Lc
strtiction may be brOughtwithin the reach of

cers and members of the chimes to use their
utmost efforts to gather the neglected youth
of Our country Into the Sabbath School and
furnish them that education which their per
ishing souls require.
4. That all christians beurged cheerfully and.
heartily to lend a helping hand in advancing
the noble stork which the Sabbath School ones
to accomplieb; that they may thus obtain Ines•
sings upon themselves, be the means of Ides
sing others, and honoring the Divine Re
deemer "who gave himself tor us.”
5. That we consider piety an essential quali
fication for! a good Sabbath School teacher;
and that Whenever practicable, only pious
verger's who have some "apteaurs to team)"
should besought es instructors in our Sabbath
Schools.
e. That the great end of all Sabbath Solidoi
Instruction should. bo to acquaint the taught
with the gracia truths of the Gospel, uud lead

School" as liable to grave objections, and
would expzes; the hope that all the friends ot
the Institution would designate tby the more
appropriate title "Sabbath School."

December as a day of special prayer In behalf
of Sabbath - Schools, sett that if e Invite the

coarse this being our first meeting mans

wish, but we trust that all our friends will do
everything they can to make our next meet

ken a deeper intereat in Sabbath schools and
churches In the Sabbath School eauae, and the
spiritual welfare of all the ,children of our
communities.

old or young, to do all you can to "feed the
lombac—to acseanyaas your neighborhood that
all the children shall be brought, tinder the in
fluence and instruction of the Sabbath School;
that all who can will be forma either in the
bible class, children!' class, or engaged in

A Fenny Wedding.
The Wheeling Repister anis North Wheel•
log is emphatically the eccentric part of the

riage of an ancient:female to a modern male.
Two other couple have come to our notice. A

feast, which consisted of a keg of beer and a
half bushel of pretzels. Bat here follows a
scene that appeals with touching tenderness
