ton There seems to be a general acceptance
to-night of the belief that Congress will at
least not adjonrn at present. Leading mem
bers, since the crisis in the Cabinet, are more

their homes—some or them quite unwell—

Outrages and assaults on freedmen living in
Loudon county, Va., having been frequiently
remrtal of late, and the civil law havin g

Gen. Grant, has sent a company of cavalry to
be stationed in that county, with headquar
ters at Middleburg.

Island Navy Yard, California, that Samuel
Welles NVI. fatally Injured on the lath Tots, by
the explosion of u holier, and died the same
evening at seven o'clock. Ile wail a nephew of
the Secretary of the Navy. Ile was on the
point of returning East to he married when
the melancholy event occurred.
A claim against the Baltimore and Ohio
railroad of ittUooo, was teedny awarded by the
Circuit Court to J. T. Harris, (or having his
leg broken Inn collision occurring during the
war. It was charged that the accident was
the result of carelessness The defense con
tended that at the time, on account of the
war, It was unavoidable, as trains could not
he run regularly.
