seemed to be the best offer that could be ob
tained. It is said that one of our crude deal
ers is in great distress, in consequence of hay
tng made a sale some weeks ago at 14e, bills
returned, and be Is now unable to bring to
mind the name of the purchaser. Ile has (It
LB alleged) been taming his brain very severely
to bring to his recollection the purchaser, but
io far, without success. It is to be hoped that
buyer, wnoever be Is, will report to the afore
said dealer at once, as a suicide or something
else more aerlonamight be the result. in case
the sale should prove of failure.
REPINED-The demand for ‘bonded oil con
tinues very mach restricted, and the market
continues dull and languid with a drooping
tendency. So far aS we could learn, there was
not a single transaction to-day—on Tuesday
evening there was a sale of 500 hbls to be de
livered between the 15th and 511th of tle=
tier. buyer's option, at Se cents, free on

CATTLE—The receipts of Cattle, although
not quite up to those of last week, wore fully
as large. had been expected, and with a sup
ply somewhat in el.em of tne demand, and
unfavorable reports both from Philadelphia
and New Volk, the market was less active
and prices may he quoted from to of a
cent per pound lower than last week. Good
fat steers, which sold readily last week at ••••,,
to 8%, did not bring over 8 cents this week, and
medium grades brought 7% to S, Mil not com
mand more than 7to 7%. Stock cattle were
also a llttla dull, in the absense of the usual
number of buyers of this class of cattle, thongh
there was not an over supply on sale. There
was a sale of one drove of extra Ohio Durham
steers, averaging about 1500 lbs, at 9 cents, but
this was an extra bunch of cattle, and cannot,
as a matter of course, be regarded as a fair cri
terion of the market. There was a falling MI
to the attendance of buyers, many of the east
ern drovers remaining at home for the
"Fourth," and those that were here, °Main.
atoly refused to operate unless concessions
were made. It is but proper to remark that
the decline hero was not as marked as it was
in New York. There, on Tuesday, cattle de
preciated from 1 to 2 cents per pound, while
here a half cent per pound will cover the dif
ference between this week and last.
SHEET'—The market for Sheep continues
dull, with a supply somewhat in excess of the
nomand, and prices have undergone no change
as compared with last week. Quotations may
Ire fairly given at 4tl to 5% gross, and these
may hr regarded as the extremes of the mar
ket. Nothing doing in Lambs or stock snoop
that we conlu hear of.
110GS—St..zuly and moderately active with . a
demand fully equal to the supply, and prim,.
are pretty well sustained, although without
quotable change 09 compared with Met week.
