Old Nan Stabbed and Cruelly Beaten.
A desperate row 'oceUrred In Church alley,
near the Academy of Music, yesterday in which
an old man named Patrick Kearney;waa stab
bed In the aide with a pen knife and afterward
beaten . to a shocking manner. Thesermin of the
quarrel, as ;toted by Kearney, In as follows
Ito had returned from his work at noon and
while washing himself at Ins own door, a
young man named Thomas Langhrey, whose
dwelling adjoins that of Kearney's, came up
behind and struck him in the nook, Kearney
turned around to defend himself when Laughs
rey's sister picked up a boulder and struck

and preferred charges of assault and buttery
with intent to kill against Thomas Laughrey
and his sister, Sarah laughrey, tor whose er
red. warrants were Immediately tallied; but
owing to the fart that they had sought safety

Robbery In RI/inning—An Extensive
lentil Andes
Tho store of Mr. Walls; in Water street, In
the benumb of Klttaning, Armstrong county,
was entered on Saturday night by thieves and
robbed. The robbery Is supposed to have been
committed about midnight, and was evidently
the work of an expert rogue. An entrance
was effected by forcing open the front shutters
and then removing a pane of glass twelve by
sixteen inches In sine. Once Menlo, the thieves
made a careful examination of the stock, end
selected such articles as could he easily
- transported." The office desk first attracted
their attention, and after forcing opus the
drawer, they obtained a pocket book contain
ing upwards of one hundred and elekty dol•
Zara In legal tenders and United states cur

cute of deposdo on the Ettlamng Bank for
four hundred dollars, dated May 9th, 1016 pay
able to J. E. Wells, with a credit on the back

Among the 'mods carried off were revolvers,
pistols,en knives and sundry other articles,
the who le amounting to about sLx hundred
dollars. There is no positive clue to tile
Utley., but they are supposed to have hailed
from Pittsburgh. Two of toe revolvers taken
were Sharp's patent four shooter, the male
spring In
each bettm broken. One was of Al
len &Wheelock's patet, and two small seven
shooters, sUvor.plated, the main spring being
out of each.

Toe...AY, Juno . 11.—in the ease of Richard B.
Young, et al-, composing the Pearl Oil Com
pany, operating a refinery near Temperance
ville, the Jury found a verdict of not guilty on
the first count of the indictment, bet guilty
on the second and third counts—amounting,
in plain words, to a conviction for keephig
and maintaining a nuisance. Sentence was
deferred, and there will likely be a motion
entered in arrest of Judgment and for a new
John Donahue pleaded guilty to an assault
and battery, and was lined five dollars end the
cost. The name party was defendant in a
surety suit, and was ordered to pay the costs.
August J. Main! was indicted fo: felonious
uisuult and battery, but was allowed by the
Court to enter a plea of assault and battery - .
Sentencs deferred.
Peter Kaltenixorn, of the Eighth ward, in
dicted for selling liquor without license, plead
guilty and was tined fifteen dollars and costs.

the larceny of a "white cow with red cars,"

the evidence in the ease being; of such a char
acter as to create grave doubts as to defend

A 'Variety of Changes.
0 10115 Meyers, who was arrested on Tuesday
morning while in the act of crawling through
a window in the house of Amelia Liumburg on
the corner of Sixth allll Grant streets, had a
hearing ybsterday before Mayor McCarthy.
Mrs. Hemburgh alleges that Myers ntruck her

—Patrick Kearney yesterday appeared Iselure
Alderman Edward Lynch, of the Third ward,
and made all information against Mrs. Doyle,
a resident of Church alloy, for keeping
bawdy house. The deponent alleges that he
is Irequently annoyed by men and women
going to and from Mrs. Doyle's at all hours
of the night, pad that their conduct on these
occasions has a tendency to injure the public
morals. A warrant was issued for the arrest
of the accusal.

lore alderman Lynch. Gallagher states that

False Pretense.—A. H. Rowan was charged
before Aidnrman Strain, yesterday morning,
with procuring from' P. Y. McNally One hun
dred and twenty-live dollars by tone and
fraudulent representation. Rowan was ar
rested and bold In the sum 01 five hundred
dollars to answer at the September term of
the Criminal Court.
Seriously loinred.—A young man named
Christian Wmip, was severely injured by be
ing thrown out of a wagon belonging to the
General Grant Engine Company, on Rebecca
street, In tho Firer ward, on Monday evening.
lie was taken to his home immediately after
the accident, where ho now lien In a critical
condition.
FWD Strnek.—Patilck Yitsgersid, a coal
hauler, was sun struck yesterday morning in
the 'First ward.Allegbeny. Ile was in the em.
ploy of Roc. Mr. Phipps. who summoned Dr.
Thom. The usual remedies were applied and
Fitagemld Is now in a fair way of recovery.
Lie is a married man and resides at Port
Perry.

poleon, by which the United States is debarred
from interfering svith the movement of the
troops now supporting Maximilian. After the

Presidency of the Mexican Hopei/lie. Having
secured that position he Is to take advantage
of any small revolution, of which Mexico af
fords 60 many, and declare himself Ersperer,
thereby dunking the Monroe Doctrine and hav
ing a firmer imperial throne than at present.
It is probable the Senate will milielt informa
tion from Mr. Seward concerning this little
game.
