a young num, residing in the Third Ward, Al

twAtity years of age, tnamed Mona Carawick,
withWitom he was acquainted, and invited her
to lakes walk with him and join some others,
males and females, who had started out for a
promenade, the night being most pleisant and
clear. She consented, and after proceeding
some distance Cash pointed out in spot on the
hillside where he said ho had arranged meet
the aegimintaucea referred to. The young
woman made no objection, and they soon
reached the locality. Being smiW, Cosh

Finding persuasion useless, - he need force

named Michael Hall, alleged tO hove been fin

away from her assailant, and attempted to
escape, screaming as she ran tor assistance.
Coming to a fence., mho was in the act of climb

her back, causing her to tail, and to receive
Injuries that prevented her making fur th er
resistance. Fortunately officer Hess, of the
Allegheny police, attracted by tho cries
made by the young woman, arrived on the
spot in time to prevent a repetition of the
outrage. Hall and Cash fled at the appear
ance of the officer, who started in permit, but
they soon got out of his sight, having consid
erably the start of him in the race. Mr. Hess
returned to the young woman, and found her
still prostrate, with her face bloody
and clothing much torn and soiled - .
Ho atartod with her in the direction of the
Allegheny Mayor'e office, carrying her in his
arms a portion of the way, and while passing
along in the upper portion of the Third ward,
the young woman, espying Hall standing In a
corner, pointed him out: to the °Moor. Mr.
Hess took him in custody, and gave the vic
tim to the outrage into the charge of officer
Hobson, who come up in the meantime, Hall,
when first accosted, denied all knowledge of
the alffulr and avowed that no policeman could
take him, but the production of a. revolver by
the officer caused him to throw off the
de
meaner of a braggart and quietly accompany
Mr. Hess to the tombs.
Clain reaching the Mayor's office, Miss Cara
wick was entirely overcome. Recovering Ind
ficicutly, she gave an account of the affair sub

Mcliclvoy, of .the night police, at once made
arrangemente to secure the man Cush. His
father's house waewatchel daring the night,

the act, of inking his departure.
A hearing was had before Mayor Morrison
yesterday forenoon, and the In-vaned were
committed to jail to answer (or the heinous
