The river continues to 'recede ateadllY at
this point, Ninth - Tour , feet4en Inches to the
channel by the pier Marks last evening. A
telegram from Oil City reports the Alle
gheny receding rapidly, with ttdrty Inches in
the channel. The weather continues cloudy
and oppressively hot, „with frequent heavy
showers or rain. It is thought that the re
cent males, both here and above, will at least
check the river if they do not produce another
rise. . •
The iteventle,. tram Forti:nouns, and Bayard.
from Parkereburg, and 'the only arrivals we
have to record.' The latter boat cleared - on
time, and the former will leave again to-day
at noon. The Orilda got in from Oil City, and
the Ida Bees left for that point last evening,
with a fair trip.
The Chiettan and Fayette arrived and de
parted for Brownsville and Genirra, with very
fair trips each way. The travel on tno Mon
ongahela packets, will, we have no doubt, be
much larger this .summer than ever before,
I and excursion parties hereafter will .be the
rule rather than the exception, as has been
the case heretofore. The new steamer Klee.
tor, belonging id the "People's Line" has
reached here from Brownsville, and it Is
thought that she will be ready to "commence
hostilities" by Monday next. She said to
ben very tine boat.
We are pained to have to record the death
of Capt. C. IL Israel, an old stenmbostman, but
who for several years past has been actively
engaged in the oil business. Capt. laraerwas
well known by many of our steamboatmen of
the present daymotwithstanding quite a num
ber of years have elapsed since he quit
boating, and and his sudden thimble will be much
regretted.
The little steamer Fort Pitt was put np at
auction yesterday aternoOn, arid afterwards
was sold at private sale. We were unable to
learn the price, but it is atddbe somewhere
about,. lifteen hundred dollars.
