THE TICKET
We put at the head of our columns this
morning the Republican County Ticket
nominated yesterday. We cordially com
mend every name in it In the hearty sup
port of every republicau in Allegheny
county.
THE VVIICE. OF ALLEGHENY
Yesterday, the Republicans of Alleghcny
County met in council, to nominate candi.
dates and to 'express their opinions on
public men and measures.
The chief difficulty in making a ticket
consisted in the extraordinary number of
good men brought forward for promotion.
The ticket is an excellent one, and will
command the hearty support of the repub
lican party. Hereafter, we sball speak
separately of the individuals computing it.
The resolutions are exactly , urh as were
to be exixicted—direct, straight-forward,
and out-spoken.. The republicans of Alle
gheny stood by the country through all
the dangers of the war. They stand now
by the representatives of the country in
Congress. Neither Executive threats not
blandishments produce the slightest im
pression on them. They are for settling
the present troubles so that they will stay
settled, and ou the basis of Truth, Justice
and Liberty.
Tlll,l 110 N, TllO JIAS WILLI AMS
The Republicans of that portion of Alle.
gheny county which is embraced in the
twenty-third district, met in Convention
yesterday, and unanimously re-nominated
this gentleman for Congress.
The resolutions adopted by the Coneen•
Lion are of the right stamp, fully in accord
ance with Republican traditions and indi
inting the path of wisdom and safety.
Butler and Armstrong have yet to speak
in relation to this nomination. Id one 01
them, it Is understood, theic is no mrposi
lion to Mr. WlLLitims. In the other, we
trust what opposition there is - will be with
drawn. In the present crisis of national
affairs it is most desirable he should be re•
taiuml. His experience and his command
ing abilities ran not well he spared from the
House 01 . Reprer.entatives at this 6114.
IMMIGRATION
A. stronger tide ale,:
year, upon our shores, Irma Europe, than
ever before. All ports, from which lines
of steamers or sailing vessels regularly de.
part for the United States. ate crowd,'"
wife multitudes eager to turn their ,bacl..
on the land of their nativity -on tla
grav es of their pro ! , alt or, -:end try their
fortunes in this repuldie. It deserve tioth
moreover, that these ad Vf•ni titers are
Largely drawn from the middle classed t_an
the emigrant, of tinnier year-. Two
edises ouspi:e in producing this result.
Against the rationacinations of monarch
has and the speculation of many political
philosophers, the republic has not only siir•
vived the most formidable peril in whir ls
any modern nation has been witelniel, hid
has enter red therefrom will, increased
strength and prestige. Government by the
people has been demonstrated not to Inc It
failure, bin to combine till the elements of
defence and offence in larger proportion
than any other form of political or
ganization that has horn tried. Nor is this
• all. The very burdens imPosed by the
prosceution of the war are serving to ad
vance the nation to a higher plane of pros
perity than it previously- enjoyed. The
pressing necessity for revenues has corn.
Ladled the adoption of a system of excise
and impost duties, under which domestic•
industry cannot fail to thrive. The pro
ducing classes of Europe arc coming to un
derstand that if they would fabrhate for
America they must come hither, with their
stocks of peculiar knowledge, the applion•
cos of their respective crafts, and their ac
cumulations of capital These are the
classes from which nations derive their
chief power and' importance.
The other cause that co-operates with
thin to stimulate emigration from Europe,
is the portentous condition of political
affairs on that continent. The indications
aro for a great storm, in which nation shall
be clashed against nation, nod same he
broken. If the threatening -contest was to
be for the essential rights of peoples, many
who now seek to get away would gladly
remain. But it promises th 'be a straggle
mainly for dynastic aggrandisement. Other
pretexts are put forward Cabinets,
whether in the Old World or the New,
seldom avow the real reasons by whirl,
they arc . actuated. They make up their
commitments so as best to appeal to,popu
tar credulity, or bigotry, or MO:Wine.

CIXIrEII IF BAD Onort. , —Heister Clymer,
the Democratic nominee for Governor, last
week, visited - Chapman Borough, this
county, where no persons reside but Demo
crats. When he arrived at the hotel he
was met by his friends, who conducted hint
to dinner and then went out and took care
1 of his coat and baggage, which they did so
I well that when Mt. Clymer wanted them
they could not be found. At length, how
ever, alter diligent search he found his
overcoat, the shawl of his accompanying
friend, and the horse blanket in the stable
yard buried in the manure. rt was a
rather bad speculation in Clymer going
there to get votes, and nearly losing his
overcoat, which, when recovered, had a
perfume about it which was certainly not
Phalon's Night Blooming Cerens. He
will be apt to find himself in rather worse
odor on the second Tuesday of October,
and will surely find that running for Gov
ernor on the Democratic ticket is n losing
speculation. The denizens of that region
have certainly the laugh on Clymer, and if
he ever re- visits that locality they will he
pretty sure to ask "How's your overcoat r .
