vernment has about eighty millions of gold
under its control, yet, not more than forty
millions of that could be Sold, and, if last
week's operations can be taken as a fair cri
terion, that amount, wonld, if thrown on th e
market, only supply the export demand for

that as soon as the large amount of cotton
bills drawn against shipMents of cotton at 40
molts here, are encored by immediate remit
