that it is not perjury to swear falsely in a
trial before the Freedmen's Bureau.- Ills

Thus, if a freedman was cheated out of
his wages or property by perjury before
the Freedmen's 'tureen, be could obtain.no
redness -in the State courts, while he could
not sue at all for wages or property, or tes
tify-in the State courts against a white man
in many of the Southern States.
