An interesting meeting was held IRA even

street, in behalf of the Freedmen's Committee
of the General Assembly of the Old School
Presbyterian Church. Atter singing and
Prayer, Rev. W. D. Howard, D. D., delivered
the Opening address, in which be elated the
object of the meeting,' and nrged the Impor
tance of sustaining the work. lie was follow
ed by Re, Mr. Logan Secretary of the Com
mittee, who gave B brief history of the opera
tions during the year. The Committee was
organized in Jtme, 1/366, but it was
not until October %following that work was
fairly commenced. Re alluded to the many
difficulties encountered in establishingachools
among the freedmen, and to the niecest which
had nevertheless all ended theirefforts. The

reach of the church. The number of mission
