Destrattive Fire tit !Chi) Ninth Wara
About Metro O'clock last: night a fire broke
out in the patent barrel and bucket manatee
tory of Guthrie & 8111, Of Taylor street, Pitt
township, opposite the Park. The
nature of the works, there being a large gran
city of staves on hand, together..with a stock
already finished, caused the fire to sp
quite rapidly, and the building; witirits
tents, became enguiphed inflames before the
steamers could arrive on the ground. When
they did arrive they were unable to save the
building, which burned to the. ground. The
firemen, however, prevented the flames from
spreading to any of the various worla adjoin
ing. The wpm works of Park, McCurdy &
Co., were threatened for a while,. and some
Sheds attached thereto were burned, but no
other damage was •Inflinted. Owing to the
lateness of the hour, Ire were unable to obtain
the amount of loscanstained, but It is quite
heavy, not less than .15,000 to 020,0 M. The fire
is believed to be the work of an incendiary. •
