riages, in fact everywhere there was crowded
a living mass of humanity. Chinese lantern,

tire park. To don the "sheeting irons" wa
the work of a moment, and again we astonish
ed the natives by our peculiar manner of
handling our feet. One gentleman, to be sure,
had the impertinence to ask us - what we were

that we were somewhat heated, and desired a
little relaxation from the exhilarating sport.
The fellow actually doubted our word, and in

feet of beauty, and that Is some consolation.
We should not hate mentioned this circam

An old gentleman had by some means got
into the ear, and while conversing in regard

It is variously estimated that there were

park on Saturday. An enterprising young
friend of ours intends to el t et the door of one
of the parks the next time they are open, and

obtain an accurate knowledge o f' the number

On Friday eight during the time that Cen
tral Park was open for the benefit of the poor
a gentleman entered the refectory of the Park
. ..Mouse,:and asked Mr. Jonas Smith, the pro.
prietur, if he could leave his °oat there, stat
ing that be could not get It cheesed In the
check room. Mr. Smith, with that urbanity
for which be Is remarkable, told him that ho
' could. The coat was placed in a secure place,
and in course of time the man Called for it.
Ile inquired the charge for taking care of it.
and was informed that no charge was made—.
that on that (Ceisselon the Park was open for
the benefit of the poor, and that anything he
to give, would be devoted to
their use and - benefit. The gentle
man remarked that ho had notiung less
than a five dollar bill, but that If Mr. Smith
would change it, he would contribute a quar
ter. The bill was passed over the couuter-4
very Mee bill it was too—and he received his
'change, four dollars and seventy-tire cents.
The bill afterwards proved to be worthless,
and the gentleman is requested to call upon
Mr. Smith and redeem it, otherwise his name
will be made public, as be Ls well known. We
do not know that the gentleman passed it
knowing it to be a worthless bill, for it cer
tainly- is a good looking one, and one we
should have taken' without a moment's hesi
tation, but the beat way to show the honest In
tention, Is to go forward and redeem it.
