that a skating contest would come off at the
Central Park yesterday afternoon for certain
prizes, alarge number of oar eitizenS, Meted

ers, professional men, handsome women, and
beautiful girls, all wended their way to the
: spot where the promised sport was to come

of men were at work with scrapers. brooms .

The rope was now taken doyen, and the en.

ter dark there was a regularearnival. A band
_of music was In attendance, Chinese lanterns
illuminated the Park. and there was a grand

On Tuesday night a most daring net of high
way robbery was committed on the earner of
Penn and St. Chili street., one of the most pub
lic lliorOughfares in the city. The particulars
as far as we have been able to learn thou are
