A Baxlsoao Novsltt.— The new steam pas
•soger car, spokenof. last week, recently con
structed lor the Eastern Railroad, and said to be’
intended for the road-between this city and
Boston, came over from Salem on Saturday,
•fid attracted some attention at the Central
station. It looted like an ordinary passenger
car, with two stovepipes sticking through the,
top and a bell suspended between them. It
stands rattier higher from the rail than an or
dinary ear, and the machinery la underneath,
between the forward wheel* The i boiler,
firebox and watertank occupy about eight ffeet
el one end of the car, while the remainder
contains aeats for some fifty passengers. It is
■aid to use only half the fuel required to d 6 the
■ami, amount of work with an ordinary locomo
tive, while the wear and tear of the rail is much

which Is fifteen tons less than an ordinary loco*
