always found water up to the middle conk until Sat

the water was forced back from the boiler dorilig the

paired immediately; bed no farther cooreisatioe with

blown on him and he had shot it or; he told the he
had asked Mr. J. Wallace for another picking, and
that hitad said be would give him one by-and-by ;
had previous to this supplied Mr. J. Wallace with

Nsw Icon Possenoan Can.—We paid visit
to the new iron paseenger air which was laying
yesterday at the Federal street depot of the Ft.
Wayne railroad It wee boilt by the firm of
fderriok, Banns Co., of 'New Brighton, and
patented by Merriok & Miner; of that place; The
assent advantages which it poesposeis reader it
decidedly preferable to the ordinary'wooden ear,
and it will probably eupercede them; to a great
extent, in this vicinity at least !-
The whole ear, except the Roaring, (Minh is
double,) and the inside finish, which Is made of
three.eighth stuff, is constructed of . ' non. The
body of the car le supported upon trussea.i am
anitas of two pieces of two and s half snob ar

.cross pieties, under the floor, are likable altron,
• piece of wood being riveted between, to which
the flooring is nailed. The manoinons, 'Mich
are supported by the cross pieces, Ors of eagle
iron, and so ire the earth:es whictOenstain the
roof. The roof is mediaf corrugated iron.; The
panels on the sides are of No. 18 Meet iron-and
are molded into handsome shape by;a hydritalio
prem.. • The doors sod window triunes are of
sheet iron, wood only befog med" , whes ii an
swers better than the metal, and this has been
aecertained to he in very few come.; There is a
ventilator between each window, behitlia the or
nary number in thereof, so that: the oar can
be tendered more etunfortable In Munmer Man
those constructed of wood. Beildie, the 1 oar
having holies walla , a current of anis consfint
-17 passing around it, which has the double lifted
of beeping the inside temperature ono; in Yam
mer and warm In winter.
The improvement proposed by the waken of
thin conveyance are eevard. Thi sides lof •
fleet class oar of this mode of oonstrection being
only ]} inched - thick, the inside width Is 'even
inches greater then that of • wooded car of !situ-

The iron car will be from two to jive roar light
er than the wooden car. This Is a Very import
ant matter. The economy of running euchloars
- would 'bee pay a large proportion of their
original cost. They are mach more datable
than the old style ear, being coadeormetal which
does Dot rot, sod preowned from Corrosion by
the paint. Thrrate safer, because; in ease a
collision there would by no wooden:splinters of
suffioteut size to do pinengers spy mitchief.
The fieelblitty of the iron would 'alio be a grad
ual check to the violence of the Shook, while
wood would, give way at once. The iron le all
firmly fastened together. there being no less
than 12,000 'rivets in a first obese one.
' There is no veneering In the interior of the
oar. All the wood work is solid and firmly lir.
sled to the iron. The finish is very handsome,
resemblieg the but 'We woodurpoers.
wood outside is esiremely showy, throwhog the wood

pane!. contribute very mach to Alit, producing
in effect sihioh, if done in wood, 'Mild be Tory
Costly. Several scent' one of the Tteaver river,

of the cot are 41 feet by 9, and h lethe first one

Tuesday. The people turned out in immense num

who came with banners - and music. They
were eddreseed by Mtwara Coved; Stewart, White
and Coffey, wind exhibited en enthusiasm unequalled
since 1840.
Darwin Piielpa, of Kittanning, bas volunteered to
run against lobn Covode for Congree• in this DD.
Wit. It will be remembered that, although Mr.
Phelps announced himself as a candidate fur the
nomination in Armstrong county at the primary
election, the People of that county, notwithstanding
Covode's deOlination, instructed their conferees to
vote for hini and not for Phelps. The contest be
tween Meson. Cowan and Covode resulted in the
withdrawal of both, and Covode was re.nonelnated se
the compromise man. Phelps having failed to get
the aominatibu, has consented to run as it volunteer
to beat Covello with the help' of the Democracy,
who have no', o ther candidate. !Under these dream
stanees, Mr. Phelps bad the had taste to appear in
Indiana and daring the sitting of our convention,
to call a meeting, at which he urged his claims to
popular support. Ilia speech consisted of a recital of
private grievance/ and a denunciation of the motives
and conduct Of Covode in bin famous Investigation.
When be was through, it wail publicly announced
that T. COffey, Keq., our late Senator, but now of
your•ity, wOuld reply to him, and the Republican
meeting was immediately adjourned to the piece
where Mr. Phelps bad spoken. An immense crowd
gathered, and Mr. Coffey took the stand. Ile began
by referring to the fact that be had but parted with
Darwin Phelps at Chicago, where, u delegate!, they
bed aided in the nomination of Abraham Lincoln,
and pledged their efforts in his cause. In a speech
of an hour and a half, he exposed the fallacy of
Pbelp's complainu, and the absurdity of his claims
to the support of Republicans, and proved that be
