"The number of people was enormous, nod the

politicaldevices was extraordinary. As a were
popular display, the meeting wee magnificent. •
But beyond all thin, there Iffi3„ great earnest

tone of the speakers was warmly responded to.
The feeling displayed was for retina" hauls and
the Uniou. No one could doubt the earnestness
of the people on either of these points. The fall
ttre of the Senate to make the desired change In
the Tariff has so disgusted the people of this
State, that there is a general determination to
have nothing to do with either of the Dem

the people of Pennsylvania naturally turn to
them as their only hope. This feeling exists
not only to Philadelphia, but throughout the

We learn that a goodly number of well-known
and lofluential citizens who have not hitherto
acted with the Republican party, but who believe
that the peace, dignity, tranquillity and prosperi
.ty of the country will be promoted by the election
of Lincoln and Hamlin, are preparing to hold •
City Meeting to respond to and ratify their nomi
nation. Most of theM are Clay Whigs of other
days, who supported Mr. Fill More in '66, partly
from State pride and personal regard, but in part
also Lemma he was the only candidate in nomi
nation for president who had shared in their pre
y struggles or who was deemed by them
and in 'hie views with regard to the internal
Olio}, and legislative needs of the country. Be
lieving Mr. Lincoln to be substantially with them
on these important topics, they have resolved to
be with him, and to swell by their numbers the
invincible host that is mustering to march to
victory . under his banner. They will invite
;mothers from different ports of the country, and
appeal to all w led believe there in need of Reform
st Winhinston to as operate wish them. Their
meeting will floulftlesn he a terse one.
