Cod prevented the admission cf his testimony.
Montague is now confined in jail, charged with
being en accessary in this very offence, and it
Was by or through him-that the watch was re
turned to its owner. It may be eteted that the
revised criminal code, now in force, reetoreetthe
cOmpetermy of a felon who hes served out his
time in jail, or the penitentiary. The robbery
in (petition was committed before the code so
pereeded the old law.
Jahn Montague was brought oat of jail and
pluedati trial as being an accessory to the last
defendants in the ciboria affair. The Common
wealth being notable to make out a ease the jury
rendered a verdict of not guilty, and the prieon
er was accordingly discharged.

forgery.—The defendants were a Gem it the

wry difficulties, which eventually ended in their
establishment being closed by the Sherilre off
berel. Daring the first port of their difficulties
they bad succeeded by urgent Felicitations to
getting Mr. DaviMirKee, a lumber' merchant
in th Ninth Ward, to endorse for them. This he
did three times, the first two being for 15433
• each, and the last being on the 9th of January,
on tangle 0f.5300, which he claime-they altered
to three hundred and ninety dollars withent hit
knowledge or consent. The prosecuting wit
ness, Mr. M'Kee, Woe sworn and testified that
het bid =domed three:notes for the defendants
and that was all, the two first being for $433 23
cash, end the last Which was on the 9th of Janu
ary for, $3OO. The $3OO was drawn four months
after dts and payableto himself. fleecing that

hands by Messrs. Austin, L3OllllB & Co., and
''that it vas afterward, redeemed by Mr. Jahn
Herron before it fell due. Here Mr. bluebell,
who together with Mr. Stowe, appeared for de
fendants, aaked for the discharge of Jenkins, oo
the ground that nothing could be found in all
the foregoing testimony to implicate him in IL

pointed, consisting of James Lindsey, Dcniel
Edgar, James Atkinson Daniel Graham •uti Jas.
Billings, to draft resolutions expressiCg the
eense of the meeting in reference to the proposi
tion of the St. Louis association, and rericrt to
an adjourned meeting on Saturday next. Two
other communications wore likewise read from
the Cincinnati Grand Union of Steamboat
Deere, of similar purport with that fruit the
eogioeere of St. Louis. On motion, tie commu
nication was accepted and referred to the above
committee. After some consultation regarding
to general business of the meeting, au adjourn
ment until 9 o'clock to-morrow moreing was
moved and carried.

ship Great Eastern mama late the lightship at half
paid coven o'clock this morniog. She left the Nee.

has forty-two passengers. She steamed the entire
paseaxe, ranging in running distance from two hun
dred and fifty-four to three hundred and thirty-three
miles per twenty-four hours. Her engines were not

light Alp." where she was boarded. She was re
ceived, when reaching the light Gap, by Capt. Coe"

The Lightest speed obtained was fourteen and a
