As you see this laconic letter contains all the

and war to the knife it will be. To understand
bow, after the lose sustained by the Neapolitan
troops at Calatafied, the insurgents were able to
push their army to the very gate of Palermo, it
is necessary to hearth mind that the remaios of
Lama's 'column were incessantly attacked by the
bands of Baron Santa Anna and Marquis Pias
ters frourMontelepre to the Pioppo. The de
feat of the Neapolitans wee so thorough that
enly 1.600 oat of 4,000 could reach the capital,
and even these entered it only in groups et ten
or twenty at a time. The cavalry was almost
annihilated. field.pleces wore abandoned togeth
er with ammunition carte. The routed alum
as soon as it entered the barracks declared it
would never go to meet Garibaldi again, and the
dread under which it was laboring soon spread
among the garrison. Works of the defence were
erected all around the city, but the threatening
attitude of the population will render them use
tem when Palermo is attacked by the patriots.
Acoording to an official dispatch received an
hour ago, to-day is the day in which Garibaldi
will attack the entrenched camp of the Neapoli
tan army. Besides these seminary pieces of in
telligence, partly derived from private telegrams,
party from those sent by Marquis Pereaoo, the
Sardinian Admiral in the Mediterranean,to his
government, tho mall steam packet has rought

those of Messina dated May 21, together mkt.
