Tun Remy.—An extraorditutrY fall of rain oc
curred daring. Saturday and Sunday nights toot,
and on Monday morning. Small streams, of, no
apparent oonseeptenco in ordinat!y weather, were
• swelled to the else O. r
mountain torrents, : and re
sembled them in the velocity with which their
waters ran. Hilly end rolling land in the coun
try Wee badly washed, though any mischief of
this description will probably be compensated
by the good done to the meadows hod grain fields.
Then are attired to a robe of living green such
as no artist could paint and 'no langerage de
scribe. The fruit Is also far alliance& All the
peach trees are in blossom, and some hove done
blossoming. Should the Spring:be open and the
trees esoilie the twenty chance. lof being killed
that they are to run during the present month,
there will be a larger crop than hus been known
for years; for we never saw the- -trees exhibit '
such vigor in putting forth their blossoms. This
may arise from their not bearing last year, as it
is well known that a tree whipti has overborne
one year will be less fruitful the next aud vice
versa. The bads of the apples, pears and quin
ces are bunting, but few have begun to blossom.
We have heard of but one catastrophe result
ing frotnibe large floods of water that deluged
the ground ddring the two nights referred to.
This happened In Allegheny city_to the office of
Mr. Simpson, situated where Sandusky street
crones the Fort Wayne Railroad track. The
office had been built against the bank on the
front and supported by large iilnhera behind.
The 148411;60y of the wafer washed away the
ground beneath the front atui the building, which

SHOCKING AFFOAY.—A row occurred yester
day morning in the hold of the steamboat Econ
omy, at the wharf, among the deck bands who
were employed et the time to Mowing away
goods in the hold. The nature of the quarrel is
not accurately known, as no information bad
been made, and the police did not hear of the
quarrel until it was over. It appears, however,
that a quarrel • occurred between one of them
named Felix Crowley and the others in the
hold, during which one of the latter, named
Michael Coleman, was stabbed by Crowley.—
When it was found that Coleman bad been
stabbed, a general assault on Crowley followed.
The most serious injury he received was a blow
on the side of the head from a piece of timber as
large as the Stanchion of a steamboat, which
(metered his skull in such n shocking manner
that his chances of recovery are very small.—
Coleman's stab is not short of any consequence,
the knife blade having struck a bone which a!
rested its course. Five persons, including the
two injured men, were arrested and lodged in
the tombs. They had a bearing yesterday but,
owing to a want of witnesses, it was postponed
nruil to-day.
Crowley was so badly iejured that it was
necessary to have him removed to the hospital.
Toe hearing of Charles Seeley, charged with
assault and battery with intent to kill on the
'person of Frederick Dick, the partionlars of
which were reported in yesterday's paper, was
had yesterday. A large amount of testimony
, was produced before Mayor Wilson, which went
to exonerate Seeley from much blame in the
matter. It was stated by some of tho witnesses
that Dick had began the quarrel by challenging
Seeley to single coadial, and annoying hint in
various ways until theqtrovocation was such as
to almost lead any man, without considerable
command of his temper, to fight. There was
much difference of opinion as to who struck the
first blow. Drs. Murdoch and Dickson testified
that Dick was in no danger, but Dick's friends
being dissatiefied, and desiring to have the tee
timuoy of Dr. Walters, who is attending him.
the bearing was adjourned until to day.
