The House went through the bills on the pri
vate calendar, on firet reading; this morning;
amoog the bills objected off last week was the
•Sanbury and Brie bill. Oa thel,queetion to lay
it aside for second reading , the ;yeas and nave
were called and resulted, yeas 40, nays 94. This
is not considered a teat vote, bet it is evident I
that the fight is to be a close one,t and the danger
is that the bill will pass. In the afternoon the
calendar wee resumed, botanly a few billet pass
ed, owing to the lotermleable disauseions that
spring up on almost every bill. It.
Gov. Wax As A Wirers—lt will be re
membered that Gov. Woe, of Virginia,
on his
visit to Harper'a Ferry, took into hispossesaion
all the letters and papers found upon the persona
of all the prisoners, and that he dill holds them.
Of course, he should know more of the designs
of the conspirators, and of thd complicity in
them of Northern men, as revealed in the cor
respondence thus obtained, thaw airy other per
son. Indeed, the GovPrnor, in a'speech deliver
ed a short time after at Richmond, publicly de
clared that he bad in Ws possession documents
which established beyond all doubt the com
plicity of prominent Northern ! politicians in
John Brown's plot. He is reported also to

would tempt him to reveal the facts, of which
he thee obtained the kitowledge,lest a storm of

Now the Committee of the Senate have for
weeks been engaged in ; investigating the secret
history of this conspiracy, and is ferreting oat
facts which might establish the Complicity in it
of persons who prudently declined its immediate
hazards. They have summoned Witnesses from
different parts of the coinatry.—sumo whom they

whom they have euspected withent reason, of a
criminal knowledge of the mad designs of Brown
