: ] V'i This snake was purchased by Mr. Goodwin,
>1- broker, of this city, and planed on exhibition at
| T Horticultural flail, Bcbool Btreet, where it prov-
U ed quite altraoUve. Lest week, however, his
i|. eaekeahip exhibited some symptoms of illness in
I ' the form of indigestion, end npon one ooeasioo,
■f f . 'Mr. Bishop, the keeper, removed a number of
from his throat.
Sunday tbs soake was treated to a warm
''•4%§Stb, add Mr. Bishop was again attempting to
p obstructions from hie throat, when
!*:the snake suddenly exhibited signs of hostility,
|E erected bis head; seised Mr. Bishop by the hand,
and commenced to coil its enormous length about
: l>-' the body of the keeper, in order to crash him to
. ' death. The other attendants in the first mo
> " mettle of alarm retreated, bat recalled by the
cries of help from the imprisoned keeper, they
aymed themaolyes with clubs and commenced to
belabor the soake in order to indneS him to re*
leasohisbotd.
No impression was made, however, and one
col) was already around the body of the unfortn
nateman, when a brolher of Mr. Goodwincame
to the rescue with a largo bammer. With this ho
etruok the-snake two violeot blows njion ihe
head, which, together with a violent choking
.*£■ about the throat, indaced the reptile to unloose
Ilf soil, when Mr. BUhop was at ones pet free
from his. horrible imprisonment. The snake
soon began to sink under tho treatment which
it had received, andjo two boon was dead. Its
% remains wereporohased by Ur, Vickery of Lynn,
who will have the skin stuffed for preservation.

tiocre.Pollce tod Election Lews passed Che Ma
ryland House of Delegates on Thursday, and, as
bj theirprostslons they go into effect immedi

that so soon as official notification of tho fact is
made to the Commistiooere named In the bill,
they will proceed to exercise the powers with
whioh they are invested, the first step towards
which will be to aamtnon before them the Mar
shal and Deputy Marabel of Polios, and
to require from the cUy- possession of
the station-hooses, police telegraph, &o. How
these demands will be met we hare no know
ledge. If with a refusal, the Commissioners will
then apply to the Superior Court for a manda
mus, upon whioh the whole question of the coosii
tipnaUty of tho laws will como up. The polioe

the case taking precedence of all other business,
both In the Superior Court and in the Court of
Appeals. It will be soon by the proceedings of
the City Connells yesterday that measures hare
already been adopted to carry the matter into the
courts for deoiston. Upon the suggestion of
Mayor Swann, a resolution has been passed au
thorising the employment of eminent counsel to
“conical the oonslUatlonality. of the lairs just
passed by the Legislature relative to the city of
BtUmore.” The proper tribunals will thus at
once be appealed to* deoide the question, and
with that decision the community will bo satis
