Cambridge City and Centreville. Workmen
were engaged in replacing the timbers iu the
bridge, and neglected, we are informed, to give
the necessary signsfal the proper time, so Ito to
prevent danger. When the signal was girth it
woe too late to cheek the train. Seeing that a
leap into the stream was inevitable, thO engineer
and firemanjomped tiff the locomotive and saved
their lives. The train went on, and the engine
and eleven care wertr•precipitated into the bed of
the stream. -
' A brakeman, who' had been bat a short time
on -the road, and Whose name we could not as
certain, was killed, es was also a drover—the
owner of several carloads of hogs on the train.

Were loaded with hogs, one with flour, one with
apples, and another with miscellaneous freight.
The bodice of the hrakemert and drover were
taken from the wreck, and 'search made for a

Mr. A. J. Smith, the conductor of the train,
who has been in the employ of the Central Co.
for a long time, had one of his legs crushed to a
jelly, and will be a Wept° for life. The cars
and engine were made a complete wreck. Near
ly all the "bop were killed, and the flour and
other freight greatly damaged. It is the worst
accident, covering the greatest loss; that has
ever befallen the Central Beitroad.
Since writing the above we base learned some
additional particulate, from Conductor Whitney,
who came to the city. last eight from the thane
of the accident. Thebrldgo through which the
train fell Is over the Worst fork of the White Wa

accident occurred by the misplacement of a rail

over the bridge and neglecting, as we have etat
