Tuesday morning hot, our eitixene were tin

announcement that ul2O of the Harper's Ferr ;

the night previous. It seems from all the feats
we have been able to gather, that Dr. W. R.
Palmer, the name of the person arrested, came
to this city about the month of July last, but
from what State or place, we have been unable
to learn. During the time, however, he contract
ed a matrimonial alliance with a very respecta
ble lady residing in this county. During the
past few weeks he has been boarding at the Red
ford House, in this city, and to all appearance,
was a man of respectability and moans. It hap
pened, however, in that publication of the mis
cellaneous contents of "Old Brown's" carpet
bag, the name of W. R. Palmy occurred among
the conspirators against the integrity of the
government of the State of Virginia.
His residence wastrated to bo at Big Creek, in
this county. Gov. Wise, open this hint, column
nicated with Gov. Harris, and the matter was
placed in the hands of Mr. C. Birch, a gentleman
of prominence in this State, who, at a late hour
on Monday night last,.proceeded to the Bedford
House and arrested Palmer while that person
was comfortably reposing in the arms of .pro
found slumber. He was committed to prison to
await the movements of Gov. Wise, who titillate
no time in having him transferred to the jttris-
