New Yob if, Sept. 30.—A few mioutes past six o'clock this morning,.the boiler, used for cooking purposes, in tho Girard House, exploded with a fear ful crash, instantly killing John G’Conhor, a plumb er, and injuring the fireman, John Collins, to such au extent, that bis recovery is considered impossible. The boiler was situated ia the basement, and tbo whole building was shaken by the explosion. There was a barber shop, on the first floor, whieh though not dlreotly above the boiler, was literally blown in pieces, the floor and farnitnre being thrown together in a heap ofronfasion and ruin.
