“Examine the bills end s'arch :he record”, and
you will find that tho great principle which an

of each State and each Territory, while a Terri

The Cdattifution has complied with Ws sag

found that w hleh Air. Douglas elya May be dis
covered, and ease :
"Pending the Nebraska bill before the Senate,
we tied that the:proposition was distinctly Made
to oonfer this very power upon the people of the
"Territory, schalf a Territory," and we voted
down by en overwhelming majority—Mr. Doug

of such power."
The Constitution quotes from the Conyrusional
Globe containing the-reoonl of the brat melon
of the XXXIIId Congreee—February 16, 1854.
The matter quoted Is the celebrated amendment
of Mr. Chaan-;-to add to the 14th twain of the

.t will be remembered that Douglas voted
against the Chase amendment. navel° Blood:

The Constitution pertinently remarks . .
"The nmendent of Mr. Chase contains the

tempted in 1854 to put upon the Nebrtute bIU,
is the true Democratic construction. Ho did
not think so then. His Democratic associates

Orange trees were grown in their greatest

a tree to attain its natural growth, and a ripe

facts ahow the great changes that the climate

tho arrival of a steamer from the Missouri River
with "another instalment cif Degrees for the

"The nogrees are about fifty in number, and
said to be in tip-top order and condition. Some
twenty-eight of them are the property of the
'forenamed Major Adams. He proceeds South
with the lot for the purpose of selling them. The
Major jocularly remarks that Greeley, Seward,
Danis, of Platte County, and himself, are rapidly
making Missouri a free State."
We might mention, In connection with this
Riot, that about two hundred Degrees loft this
city within the put two weeks for the South.
it is estimated that upwards of four hundred
slaves leave the State weekly, and not ten Mayes
are brought into it. This drainage must soon
rid ue of slavery.

BOGUS DISPATCIIES Mart Barmiottr.—Certain
persons in Baltimore have lately been hoaxing
the press with epurious acconnteaf alleged riots
and outrages In that city. ThaliaWawa Clip
per, of Tuesday, mays:
"We have waited wall now for a correction of
these infamone faLsehoode, but none has been
made. We are now at liberty to point to the
authors. These dispatches were east to Phila
delphia from the office of the Baltimore ffins.
That paper has received more rapport from the
people of Baltimore than coy ever publiehed
here. It has made a Conine for its proprietors,
drawn from the hard earnings of the merchants
and mechtufic) of our city. It is now the reolp
ii eat of more patronage than say other paper.
Its gratitude la now manifested in the dispatch
ing of Wantons falsehoods to add to the defam
ation of Baltimore which has from time to time
been uttered in Its editorial columns. Cur
neighbors of the American are • not free from
blame in this matter. Dispatches have been
forwarded from their office which were calculi
fano do injury to Baltimore, and the correction
of their mai-statements has been" slow to come,
or never came at all; but, In the midst of all
our troubles, when the public here were aroused
to the Intetisest indignation at the systematic
defamation of our city, these dispatches have
been traced to the office of a Baltimore newspa
per, whioh ie receiving the favors of nearly oar
.whole population. We have no suggestions to
'Make. If our all/sena cannot recognize how
their Interests hero been betrayed, and find the
remedy," they deserve to suffer, as they haw
done."
